Why I love it: Portability, my library is with me always, in a neat little package! No trees are killed to bring me my stories. The files don’t yellow, tear, break, smell or get dusty. So many authors are publishing electronic only these days. I would miss out BIG TIME if I didn’t have one.
Why I hate it: Unless files are named correctly I don’t know what order to read a series in. I need to remember new author names OR new book names to find things. Basically, I need a computer handy to figure out what to read or I need to take notes every time I download something because I won’t remember. I miss covers and the blurb on the back. I think my TBR has grown exponentially with the kindle and I have no hope of catching up. That is fun and stressful at the same time. It froze on me one time and I finally figured out how to reboot. I would/will freak out when it dies on me (reminder to self, back up books!). Lending…much tougher.
Overall, the good outweights that bad. I have some of the same problem with my music collection (I really miss the liner notes). Some day soon I will miss my packaged DVDs. It is the way of the future after all.
How about you? After you balance both, do you love or dislike e-readers?
