O is for Ojai, CA

Around 80 miles north of Los Angeles, and 11 miles inland is the town of Ojai.  I grew up here but moved away after high school, and for some lovely reason, my husband and I have now settled here.  The picture is part of our mountain range and those particular faces are called the Topa Topas.  If you see the Topas, you know are you are in Ojai or close to it.  The picture is from this weekend.  Pretty weird, snow in April, but we are enjoying our wacky spring, thankful we are getting some late precipitation.  Summer temperatures top out around 115 at the highs, but usually we are in the 90s and the hills get really dry.  As my other favorite past-time is to go hiking and the rain has made my hikes much more interesting!

The other things we are known for, oranges, pixies and avocados.  We also have a lot of yoga studios, tennis courts, dogs and people with horses.  I even had a run in with a bear last year.  A bit random, but pretty true.

Another shot of the Topas, though a lot closer.  So, what local feature or landmark epitomizes your home town, city or state?

About ocdreader

I love to read! I always have a book or four going, I have more books in my to-be-read pile than I can read in a year and yet I continue to haunt the bookstores. I have a problem, but I somehow soldier on. I enjoy talking books, so pass on your recommendations and thoughts - I would love to hear them.

  1. Ojai was also home to the remarkable potter, Beatrice Woods. I love her and Ojai. Nice place to live.

We are known for Mt. Mitchell – highest point east of the Mississippi River.

Yes! We have many, many artists here, and I pass by her school often. It really is an amazingly diverse community.
Mt. Mitchell – I am going to look it up! Thanks Jaye

Wow – it is beautiful there. I can see why you moved back.

Gorgeous pictures! Can you elaborate a bit on the whole “we’re known for pixies” bit? 😉

    • ocdreader says:

LOL – pixies are those cuties or little tangerines, mandarine oranges things – when I read your question I immediately thought faeries! Funny. Sadly, no, we are not known for living, flying faery pixies, but for the fruit. 🙂

Small towns, especially the ones surrounds by mountains, are such a treasure. We live in the Sierra Nevada Foothills area. It is such a jewel.

So glad that you went back!

  5. So nice to get some insight into who you are and where you live. It makes these cyber friendships so much more meaningful. Thanks for sharing that.
