My favorite monster’s are: Dragons!
Why do I find myself attracted to these slithery, sepent-like, flying, scaly beasts who could eat me with one gulp?
They are pretty.
Ok, they are also long lived and are seen as keepers of knowledge and also seem to come in an array of colors. They can live in the air, the ground, the water and fire…quite elemental of them really. What other “monster” can brag that, really? I am sure I am forgetting one that you all will remind me of…but for right now, I think they are quite special. Many stories have them as mindless, and evil and beyond reason. However, more of them, at least the ones I read, are filled with reasoning, smart cunning and brave dragons. If you piss one off, which generally seems to be the case, they can be all fire and brimstone until you make peace…or offer it a donkey that sounds like Eddie Murphy as her sweetie-pie.
The dragon characters I have been reading lately – they have entered the paranormal romance genres as shifters looking for human mates in Deborah Cooke and Yasmine Galenorn’s novels, as one who offers arcane knowledge and help in All the We See or Seem, McCaffrey’s dragons along with Paolini’s bond with one human which enables them to speak mind to mind. And in one of my favorite series by Tamora Pierce, a dragon is forced out the divine realms and is lied to by the bad guys. It dies fighting to help the good guys and leaves its daughter to be raised by the wild mage Daine. Serpentlike and smart, curious and sweet, she moves like a cat and Daine calls her kitten. And, of course, there is Smaug from The Hobbit. I am so excited to see how he is portrayed in the new movie!
The other cool thing about dragons is that they are relatively easy to draw. Because honestly, if you mess it up, who is really to know? I have completed one and only one oil painting. I grabbed the idea for the picture from The Voyage of the Basset, an awesome adventure story with a lot of cool pictures. It doesn’t much look like the original, but it really doesn’t matter!
How could you not love dragons!?

Dragons are my best too. Just love them for the same reasons you give- and then of course my Welsh heritage also helps. I loved Zoe in the Deborah Cooke Flying Blind series. (Thanks to you) Can’t wait to read more of her stuff.

Dragons are cool and scary. Your picture reminded me of a short story by Nabokov. It’s called The Dragon, and I’ve reviewed it recently as part of a collection of short stories. There was one mentioned in The Historian as well, figuratively this time. It is a time of dragons it seems.
It is and I love it! The Historian was wonderful. 🙂

I love dragons. “How to Train A Dragon” is one of my favorite kid movies, and not just for the dragons. I’m Swedish, so the whole Viking part appeals as well. Another dragon I like is in Aragon – my son made me read the book. Nice to meet you during this fun blog hop!

Oh, I do love the dragons! Max was my sons imaginary dragon guardian when he was very young, it helped him to sleep knowing he was under such protection. I used to tell him stories of Max’s adventures before he fell asleep. Should have written all that down. 🙂

Dragons are an awesome choice! I don’t know a lot about them, but I really enjoyed How To Drain Your Dragon. Did you paint that dragon up above? Because it is very good!
Thank you! Yep, that is my one oil painting. I just can’t seem to scare up the time to try to do another. Oh well.
My next fantasy series has dragons. I do love them. I also can’t wait to see Smaug.

I love dragons too! My sons used to have them in their rooms when they were younger – I always knew what to buy them for Christmas 😀
That is always the best! For my niece right now it is Hello Kitty or the Little Mermaid, I am excited for when she grows up to dragons or something like that (or something I think it is super cool)! 🙂
