WWW Wednesdays January 9th

It’s that time again for our midweekly book wrap up hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.  What have you finished, What are you reading and What is up next?

enclavesirenI finished a couple of things this week, Enclave (Razorland #1) by Ann Aguirre, a future YA dystopian, post-plague with zombies.  Crazy!  But great and I am excited to get my hands on Outpost (#2).  I also finished Dream Lake (Friday Harbor #3) by Lisa Kleypas which was good and Siren (#1) by Tricia Rayburn which was moody and kind of dark but quite enjoyable.

elegancebeautifuldisasterI am currently reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery and it is tough going.  I enjoy reading it, because it is weird and philosophical with big words and great language and actually pretty funny, but I have to look up a word every few pages.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy that it makes me think, but the characters are too damn smart for their own good.  I am also reading Beautiful Disaster…I am not having that problem with this book.  It is New Adult, a little clunky in the language/writing, but the story sucks you in and shakes you around…at least so far.  If you let yourself get swept away you find yourself obsessively reading, if you don’t, it will probably irritate you!  Haha.  I get all obsessed, then I put it down and don’t want to pick it back up.  You know, ignore it.  Very weird.  I am having a teenage love affair with the book.

Next up – I honestly don’t know.  I did get a few pages into Robert Jordan’s The Eye of the World, but I don’t know if now is the right time for it.  I got a couple of books for review that I could dig into… The Garden by Paul Harry about Adam and Eve, or Supernatural Freak by Louisa Klein, Sinner’s Gin is waiting patiently too.  They all look amazing.  I keep picking up and putting down King’s Carrie…I think I might need a little reading break and to watch some TV or something.  (Noooooooooo!)

Maybe I should check out what you guys are reading to help me make up my mind.  So leave the link to your WWW or let me know in the comments what you are reading this week!  🙂

About ocdreader

I love to read! I always have a book or four going, I have more books in my to-be-read pile than I can read in a year and yet I continue to haunt the bookstores. I have a problem, but I somehow soldier on. I enjoy talking books, so pass on your recommendations and thoughts - I would love to hear them.

I can’t help you here, Elisa. Again – I’m not reading anything because I’m trying to get this house organised to move. But I love seeing what you’re reading (I read vicariously through you!) 😀

  3. I really need to read Beautiful Disaster. Great picks.

That’s a great bunch of books. I am hearing a lot about Beautiful Disaster, can’t wait to read your review before checking it out. I finished Supernatural Freak last week and it was a paranormal/fantasy read with a lot of adventure. Thanks for stopping by and happy reading.

I read the first scene of Supernatural Freak and it is pretty darn good! Like you said, lots of action – I am looking forward to it. Found it through you!!

I am a lazy reader and have never bothered to look up words I don’t know, except in very rare circumstances. However, once I got my Kindle and all I have to do is touch the word to pull up the definition? I do it a lot, sometimes just to see the subtleties of word choice. Have I mentioned lately that I love my Kindle?

I am usually quite lazy about looking up words too – but some of these I just need to know! 🙂 I didn’t know that about the kindle…I am not a little more in love with it too

  6. readabookonce says:

Wow, what a list for the week. You sure did tear through some books. The zombie one sounds fun. But then again, anything with zombies sounds fun to me.

And while I have you, can I bitch and moan about something real quick? What is with all this “beautiful disaster” crap coming out these days? I know it’s supposed to be ironic and all, but when everyone keeps using it, it ceases being ironic and starts being moronic. Can we start telling artists to please stop it with that mess and find some other ironic/not really ironic phrase to beat to death? This one has been dead for at least 6 months.

    Heh… sorry. 🙂

    My WWW Wednesday

  8. I’m currently reading Ghost Soldiers and Family Violence (Legal, medical and Social Perspectives). 🙂

  9. I also found ‘Elegance of the Hedgehog’ rough. I just put it down! Too many great books to read to waste my time with something I’m not excited about!

So many good books, so little time! Beautiful Disaster sounds good.

I really enjoyed Enclave which I listened to on audio and I liked Outpost as well. THere is also a novella in between the two called Endurance told from the POV of Stone & Deuce’s other friend (blanking on her name) which was short but interesting. Looking forward to seeing where this series goes. I wasn;t a fan of Siren but then that might have been the fault of the narrator so I haven’t tried the other books in the series. And I’ve heard a lot about Beautiful Disaster but I haven’t picked it up yet…looking forward to what your final thoughts on it will be.

    My WWW Wednesday is here.

    • ocdreader says:

I am excited to pick that up, Stone and Thimble! Cool. Siren was odd, but I think I liked that about it…it felt moody and bizarre and some things never got explained…but after a bit I took to it. But I can see going the other way as well.

  14. I haven’t heard of any of these books. I might have to look into some of them!

  15. Dayle Lynne says:

I’m not familiar with any of these, but I looked a few up on Goodreads . . . I definitely think I’m going to check out The Elegance of the Hedgehog (and keep a dictionary – or at least the dictionary app on my phone 😛 – handy!). I look forward to coming back and seeing what your final rating is 🙂

    • ocdreader says:

I hope you enjoy it. I am not a big philosophy person, but I think it would get more out of it if I were. But I am still enjoying regardless, even if I didn’t know what phenomenology was before (and quite honestly still don’t now) some day someone will say something and the synapses will fire and it will all make sense. 🙂

  16. The Elegance of the Hedgehog – looking forward to a review on that one.
I’m down to the last pages of Volume II of Sherlock Holmes, The Complete Novels and Stories, can’t read more than a few pages every night before sleep takes me.

  17. jenniferbielman says:

Can’t wait for you to tell me how Enclave is. Hehehe Beautiful Disaster will do that to you. It’s not the best written book ever but, dear god, the story sucks you in.

    • ocdreader says:

Seriously! holy cow – I was a sullen teen while reading the damn thing because I didn’t want anyone to bother me and I knew it was silly stuff so it ticked me off even more that I was so enthralled by it. Oh well, finished, was fun, movin on! 🙂

  18. Jenn says:

I felt the same way about Beautiful Disaster. I really enjoyed it.

  19. I’ve been wanting to read Enclave – sounds good! I’ve been curious about Beautiful Disaster. People either love it or hate it which makes me want to know more! I enjoyed Carrie by Stephen King. It’s the only book I’ve read by him 🙂 great choices. Thanks for sharing and stopping by my blog! Have a great week 🙂
