Overall – This book was enjoyable with interesting characters and it kept me reading into the night!
Summary – A San Fransisco cop and a broken rock star meet and fall in love. Unfortunately the rock star’s past is dredging up dead bodies on his doorstep…
The characters are wonderful – Miki St. James is a rock star singer, but so broken and tragic, the poor guy just can’t seem to catch a break. Kane is from a large Irish Catholic family and is a cop (figures!) but he also has an artistic side.
So Miki was abused as a kid and his abusers are turning up dead on his doorstep. Who is doing this? Does Miki deserve to be protected or in custody? Kane meets Miki when Miki’s dog steals something from his studio. Kane is instantly curious about this frail and broken man and makes sure to get to know him.
I could see the characters easily. The dialogue is good, and the characters can be light and funny, even though junky things are happening. The romance part is nice and doesn’t happen too quickly. There is interest there, but nothing for a bit which was nice. I was suprised how easily Kane was able to date a suspect, but, whatever. The love scenes are well done and without too many of the male “rough” words. Does that make sense? Some of these books feel like a porno by using baser language and actions that make me blush and laugh nervously. Don’t get me wrong, there is action, but, I didn’t hear “bowm chicka bowm bowm” playing in the background.
I rooted for them and their relationship and I can’t wait to read the second book because I am excited to learn some more about what is happening. Also, I loved the ending, it is so exciting and a bit of a What the!? and a perfect lead in to a sequel. 4 gold police stars on the shirt discarded in haste on the bedroom floor…
