WWW Wednesday May 29th

Hello fellow readers! What are you reading this week? Play along with MizB and let us know what you recently finished, what you are currently reading and, if you know, what is up next.

I am taking a class for work today and then I have bookclub afterwards, so I can’t respond and visit until LATE! Sorry about that, but know I am thinking about you all and wondering what wonderful bookish treats you are serving up today while I relearn  grammar rules and business writing.  🙂

Incarnate Coverhomemade lifeI finished three things this week – Incarnate by Lawrence Weill, a difficult story about a woman struggling with mental illness and how it affects her and her family.  Tangled Threads by Jennifer Estep, the 4th Gin Blanco book which was quite enjoyable action-wise and her personal life is forwarded nicely as well.  I also JUST NOW finished A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg which is the bookclub pick (and I should have read it by last week, luckily the meeting was postponed).  I grabbed it from the library today, and while it is a respectable 313 pages, many of them are wonderful sounding recipes so it was easy to finish quickly.  It was lovely and I quite enjoyed her easy to read narrative style, mini-essays about life and food and her love story with her husband.  If you like that type of read I recommend it. I haven’t tried the recipes – YET – but one lady is going to make the Chocolate Wedding Cake and another the Ratatouille.  Yum! I will let you know…

vampire codeI am currently reading The Vampire Code by E.C. Adams and am nearly finished, it is pretty fun and the story keeps surprising me when it takes a new turn. It releases on June 1st and I hope to have a review up right around then.

Next up, I need to find where I put and pick up Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie, I am half way through and would like to finish and Lady of Devices by Shelley Adina which looks like the beginning to a series of cute YA steampunk.

What are you reading this week?  Anything good?

About ocdreader

I love to read! I always have a book or four going, I have more books in my to-be-read pile than I can read in a year and yet I continue to haunt the bookstores. I have a problem, but I somehow soldier on. I enjoy talking books, so pass on your recommendations and thoughts - I would love to hear them.

  1. You’ve certainly read some tough books lately. Incarnate looks and sounds gruesome. You’re braver than me! I’m into fluff these days, as you will see when you visit me 😉
    Enjoy the course.

I am in need of some good fluff and am flirting with starting Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares…seems pretty fluffy to me! Though Dash seems to speak with a college professor inner voice…or psuedo hipster’s…hmmmm

  2. I’m still worming my way through Game of Thrones book 3. People get killed and everything.

Bookclub sounds really sinister. In my head I’m picturing it to be like the Hansel and Gretel story. How many woodlice have you shoved in the oven this month?

    • ocdreader says:

I can’t read the same series book one after the other like that! I am so impressed.
bookclub is quite dark and twisty, we toast woodlice and bookworms, and bookish magic comes true one night a month.

I’m reading Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ’72 by Hunter S. Thompson. Compulsively readable… It’s like watching a train wreck, you can’t take your eyes off it…

    • ocdreader says:

Oh that is fun, I didn’t read that one, but his books are just out of control! His mind does not take the logical connections like most folks. 🙂 Enjoy!!

  4. I can’t wait to read The Vampire Code…little twist to the typical vampire lore!

  5. Interesting titles. The vampire code looks good

Incarnate sounds intriguing! I’m also interested in Lady of Devices! Happy Reading!

    • ocdreader says:

Lady of Devices is starting out pretty good, independent forward thinking girl stuck in a time where they don’t really encourage that! always fun

  7. Kwizgiver says:

All of your books sound so interesting!

  8. diannegray says:

I’ve gone back to an oldie this week, Dean Koontz – Odd Interlude 😉

  9. Jenn says:

Oh I wanna read Incarnate… I am very much interested with psychological stories.

Hopping from WWW Wednesdays, my post can be read HERE.

  10. Irish says:

I love when a story can keep surprising you. I’ll have to check out the Vampire Code when it releases.
