Review – Into the Deep

into the deepInto the Deep (Into the Deep #1)

by Missy Fleming

I received an ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Cute and entertaining and about a girl who is half mermaid and doesn’t realize it!  Of course I loved it mostly because I wanted that for myself while growing up.  So I was slightly jealous of our lead as well.  Oh well.

So not only do we have a coming of age story, and a “get used to who you are and what you look like, and how you were raised”, we also have some major strife in the oceans that needs fixing.  And our lead character has more of what I always wanted, big ole magical powers. Oh yea, and she is nobility.  So, she is kind of stacked in the “I want to be her” department. But did I mention it is fun?

The story flows, the underwater scenes are pretty dang cool, the bad guy isn’t seen too much, but her destruction is felt throughout the story.  The bad guy reminded me a bit of the bad sea witch from the Little Mermaid, but maybe that is because is the most similar story I have to this one.

Besides the stacking of powers and awesome specialness, our heroine is really adult in her thinking and speaking.  She is supposed to be 16 or so and she is so level-headed or at least open about things that it shocked me.  It was great, cause she kind of showed you how you should do it, though at times it wasn’t horribly believable that a young girl could be that way.  I wouldn’t have been that good!  So, she is too level headed which then didn’t round her out as a character.  Or maybe it did, but I like a little struggle and growth and while she learned things, she didn’t need much personal growth.

There are a couple of love interests but no triangle for long and an evil stepmother.  That makes it a little bit like a fairy tale.

So this story is just the beginning.  There is more story to tell/read and experience and I am interested to see where Fleming takes things.  3.5 sharks circling, just waiting for a chance to strike!

About ocdreader

I love to read! I always have a book or four going, I have more books in my to-be-read pile than I can read in a year and yet I continue to haunt the bookstores. I have a problem, but I somehow soldier on. I enjoy talking books, so pass on your recommendations and thoughts - I would love to hear them.

We used to go sailing and I would sit on the edge of the boat and watch for something, anything! Then I would wish I could just jump in and head on out. Mermaid me King Neptune! 🙂

Who doesn’t want to be a mermaid. I love underwater scenes because if done right, they are breathtaking.

I think a lot of us have that fantasy. It’s so fascinating to imagine being able to live comfortably in two worlds.

Don't be shy!
