Light paranormal with a tongue-in-cheek, crazy in a good way heroine, who just happens to be The Grim Reaper. Death is actually kinda funny.
I am not sure if this is paranormal romance or what, but there are a couple of fan yourself scenes. But mainly, we follow Charley around as she does her PI job and helps out her uncle, a homicide detective. She can help break cases wide open by chatting up the ghosts left behind.
But the charm of this book are the characters. Charley’s internal and external monologue is hilarious. Her mind works in mysterious ways, many of which can be explained with pop culture. Her side kick, Cookie, it is wacky character as well. Reyes, the love interest is smoldering and different, you eventually do find out why. AND, Charley might have family issues and a little bit of angst, but it is NOTHING like some of the other characters in urban fantasy or paranormal romance. She doesn’t whine too much unless she is busting someones chops. It makes it easy and silly and ridiculous, but a heck of a lot of fun too.
The story is good, there are a boat load of characters but everything is easily followed. It is silly and crazy. Be in the mood for crazy scenarios and some laughing. If you are cranky, you might not find her funny, more annoying…so, ya know. Roll with it. 4 stars shaped like scythes wearing flowing black capes.
